Getting Started Consultation

$75 · One hour

For when you need to understand where to begin.

We talk through where you are in the process, what you have already done, and what is causing confusion. Together, we identify the next steps you can take and the questions you need to bring to your agency, clinician or another professional.

Your consultation can cover:

  • How the FERS disability retirement application process works.
  • The different roles of the applicant, treating clinician, supervisor and agency.
  • Which forms, instructions and agency contacts relate to your next step.
  • Whether a focused consultation or ongoing coaching fits the help you want.

This is a verbal consultation. You may take your own notes; a written plan, document checklist or prepared application is not included.

Guided Application Consultation

$175 · 60 minutes

For when you are working on your application and need help with a particular part.

Bring the questions or client-prepared material you want to discuss. We use the session to explain the relevant instructions, work through what is unclear and help you identify your next action.

Possible session topics include:

  • Understanding an ORA question or application form.
  • Talking through your own applicant statement for clarity and factual detail.
  • Preparing questions for a physician appointment.
  • Understanding the agency’s accommodation and reassignment documentation.
  • Walking through your own submission checklist.

Feedback is given verbally. You write your answers, make revisions, organize your materials and submit your application yourself.

One session may focus on one substantial task rather than the entire application. Additional sessions are optional.

Eight-Week FERS Application Coaching

$225 per week · $1,800 for eight weeks

Optional prepayment: $1,620

For when you want continuing guidance while you work through the application.

This program gives you a structured sequence of conversations, personalized feedback and accountability. We work through the application in manageable stages so you understand what each part asks and can make progress on your own materials.

Weekly format:

  • One 60-minute coaching consultation.
  • One optional 15-minute follow-up call to clarify that week’s work.
  • A practical task for you to complete before the next session.
  • A progress discussion at the beginning of the next session.

You receive focused attention to your application questions, rather than a generic class. Emily helps you notice unclear explanations, distinguish completed steps from outstanding requests, and prepare more useful questions for the people responsible for the information.

The initial $75 consultation is separate. Work already completed is taken into account so sessions do not simply repeat it. Additional coaching weeks are optional at $175; their scope is agreed before booking.

The eight weeks provide a coaching structure, not a promise that a physician, agency or OPM will complete its work within that time.

What this service includes—and what you do yourself

These services provide personalized education and verbal application-preparation guidance. You remain the author of your answers and retain control of your accounts, records, decisions and submissions.

TFDR does not prepare medical chronologies, organize or process your records, enter application data for you, rewrite statements, prepare physician reports or submit applications on your behalf. Your clinician supplies medical opinions; TFDR does not determine medical sufficiency or provide legal representation.

TFDR is independent of OPM. Coaching does not guarantee eligibility, approval or a processing time.

YOUR WEEK-BY-WEEK PATH

Eight weeks of focused conversations.

We adjust the order to your starting point, deadlines and the availability of your agency and clinicians. Time-sensitive steps begin when needed—not simply when their topic appears below.

Week 1 — Understand the process and get moving

We identify your current stage, the applicable agency or former-employee application route, and the parts completed by you and others. We discuss access to ORA and identify requests that should begin promptly, including agency documents, provider information and the SSDI application requirement.

Your progress: You know whom to contact, what you are requesting and which steps need attention first. You begin your own requests and progress notes.

Week 2 — Work through the retirement application basics

We explain the relevant ORA retirement-application questions and SF3107 information, as applicable. Topics include your service history, personal information, supporting documents and questions about retirement elections that need answers from your benefits office or another qualified adviser.

Your progress: You work through your own application information and identify facts or decisions that still need clarification. You make your own elections.

Week 3 — Build your applicant statement

We walk through SF3112A’s questions and discuss how to describe your own experience in clear, factual language. We focus on actual job duties, what happens when you try to perform them, relevant dates, attendance or conduct issues, and accommodation history.

Your progress: You create your own first draft, using your words and accurate examples rather than generic phrases.

Week 4 — Talk through and refine your statement

You bring your draft for a verbal walkthrough. We discuss whether your answers address the questions, whether dates and descriptions are consistent, and where a reader might need a clearer factual explanation.

For example: “When you say this task is difficult, what actually happens, and how often?”

Your progress: You make your own revisions and identify unanswered factual questions. The aim is a clear account, not scripted language or a prediction of approval.

Week 5 — Prepare for your clinician conversation

We review what SF3112C asks the treating clinician to address and how your position description can help explain your work. We discuss questions you can ask about documented limitations, treatment, prognosis and expected duration.

Provider requests should already be underway when appropriate; this session need not delay an appointment.

Your progress: You prepare your own appointment questions and know which information to discuss with your clinician. The clinician independently writes their findings and opinions.

Week 6 — Understand the agency’s pieces and check outstanding requests

We explain the purposes of SF3112B, SF3112D and SF3112E, including the supervisor’s statement and agency accommodation/reassignment certification. We talk through the status of your requests and how to ask for factual updates.

We also revisit the separate SSDI application requirement and the application receipt or other documentation needed.

Your progress: You know which office is responsible for each outstanding item and can make your own follow-up requests. Agency forms remain the agency’s responsibility.

Week 7 — Walk through your application checklist

Using the current official instructions and your own checklist, we discuss unanswered prompts, inconsistent dates, required signatures and documents still outstanding. You practice checking that the materials you intend to submit are readable and identifiable.

Your progress: You make your own corrections, assemble your materials and distinguish finished items from unresolved ones. This is a preparation walkthrough, not certification that your medical evidence meets OPM’s standard.

Week 8 — Understand submission and what comes next

We walk through the current ORA/agency submission route applicable to you, how to retain confirmations, and how to monitor notices and requests. If your application is not ready, we use the session to identify the remaining actions rather than rush a submission.

Your progress: You either complete your own submission through the appropriate route when ready, or leave knowing what remains, who is responsible and how you will follow up.

Agency requests, medical appointments and processing delays can change the sequence. A deadline should never be postponed to fit the coaching schedule.

Clear scope before you commit.

Services begin only after TFDR confirms the task and you receive the applicable agreement and dated service selection. An inquiry does not create an appointment, payment obligation or automatic enrollment. Existing signed agreements and purchased scopes remain unchanged.
